Ok, when it comes to starting a new diet, I have to admit, I really am not the expert here and I completely HATE them. But, after having my second kid almost 3 years ago and having a severely hard time dropping the last of the baby weight – yeah, I’m ready to try anything now… even if it means dieting. *shudder* I have an aunt who went on the Atkins diet before my daughter was born, lost an amazing amount of weight, and has managed to keep it off. So, I finally gave in and thought that I would give the Atkins diet a try. Let me tell you, starting a new diet sucks, especially the Atkins Diet.
This first two weeks, called the Induction Phase, is severely a woman’s nightmare. No chocolate, no fruit, no breads, no milk, n0 ice cream… oh my God, are you kidding me? Does Dr. Atkins seriously know that women cannot live without chocolate? Uggg.
Ok, ok… I can do this. The Atkins diet can not be that hard… really. Just have to breathe, I can survive without chocolate for a few weeks, right?
So, my first day on the Atkins diet, I found myself really depressed when I was looking at the “acceptible” food list for the Induction Phase. Really, I’m only allowed to eat meats, eggs, a little bit of veggies, and that’s about it. Oh yeah, and all that damn water. Geeze… I’m not sure I can drink any more water.
I did manage to get a bit creative with the list and create some yummy meals, such as omlets with cheese and steak strips. But, wow, your choices are SO limited here. I am really hoping that I can stick with this and really see some results.
So, make sure that you follow me here to see what all happens while I’m on this Atkins diet and see if it’s really worth it or not… I’m praying it is.
Hi,
I’ve been doing Atkins for 6+ years now – it ain’t that bad, though induction *does* indeed suck when you’ve been eating high carb crap all your life like I was when I started. After a while though, you get used to it and after induction is over, you can start having a larger variety of stuff. You can do sweets, though it won’t be the same – but going down a few clothes sizes ain’t that bad, either.
Atkins isn’t for everybody, nor does it work for everybody, but if it does, I think you’ll be impressed.
Good Luck.
